Nanã (or Nanã Buruku) is the oldest orisha in the pantheon, worshipped in Candomblé and Umbanda as the "Grandmother" of the orishas, lady of wisdom, ancestry, and death. She rules over mud, swamps, and stagnant waters (primordial clay), symbolizing the beginning and end of life. Her colors are purple and white, and she is greeted as Salubá.
